This programme has been active since the year 2008. Its initiatives include capacity building of local organizations so that they can integrate trauma healing in their initiatives, trauma recovery at the community level through community forums, regional symposiums for trauma healing practitioners and a 5 day training on ‘breaking cycles of violence;

Within the programme, COPA commissioned a study aimed at comprehending cycles of violence in Kenya, contextualizing the nature of collective trauma and outlining strategies and actions for healing, peacebuilding and conflict transformation.  The study interviewed community trauma practitioners, trauma scholars and university lecturers, religious and community leaders and civil society organizations. It culminated in the publication of the documentation ‘In Search of Healers’ which among other things explored African ways of healing trauma and affirmed the existence of cycles of violence dating back to the pre-colonial Kenya.
