Women & Leadership Programme
COPA has actively engaged in this programme since 2008. It aims at building capacities of women so that they can effectively engage in peacebuilding, political and statebuilding processes at grassroot, national and regional levels.
In the programme, COPA has mentored young upcoming women to undertake peacebuilding processes in the Karamoja and Somali clusters. Extensive trainings on leadership and peacebuilding have been undertaken for women interested in vying for political positions in Kenya and Somalia. The programme has also published documentations highlighting the achievements of grassroot women human rights crusaders and others on how Kenyan women have contributed to the implementation of UNSCR 1325. Extensive trainings and awareness raising have been done among selected regions in Kenya to build capacities of organizations on UNSCR 1325 so that they can institutionalize the way they involve women in their initiatives. The programme also has a 5 day training that focuses on ‘Gendering Human Security, Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation.
